Oaszee & Strong 2nd half lift Milton over Needham
Photo's curiosity of Roy Chambers
9/9/2016 - On a beautiful night in Needham, senior captain Koby Oaszee made his presence felt immediately on the opening kick-off. As he did last year, Oaszee returned the kick-off for touchdown, but this time it wasn't called back by penalty. Aidan Walsh kicked the first of his 4 PAT's and we lead 7-0, 13 seconds into the season.
Unfortunately the rest of the first half featured several missed opportunities. After stopping Needham on their first drive via an Oaszee interception we advanced into Needham territory under the guidance of senior quarterback Owen Keaney (16-24, 202 yards 2tds). Keaney's first two completions to David Brundage and Oaszee moved us deep into Needham territory but we were unable to overcome penalties and finish.
Needham answered on their next two drives utilizing mostly play action passes the Rockets tied the score. A perfectly executed Needham onside kick lead to another Rocket score and we trailed 14-7. The rest of the first half was a wash as both teams failed to finish.
In the second half the Wildcats began to gel. The defense forced a punt on Needham's first drive and we drove 99 yards to tie the game at 14. Oaszee, Smith Charles and Brundage all had explosive plays before Osazee finished the drive with a 1 yard plunge.
The rockets answered back with a nice drive and a rushing touchdown to jump ahead 21-14 late in the 3rd period. Back we came in the 4th mixing the run and pass. It was Charles and Keaney providing the big plays, none bigger than a Keaney to Osazee pass on 4th and 4. The next play Smith Charles scored on a sweep to tie it up at 21.
Needham had us on the ropes when they broke a 60 yard run to our 4. We got a tremendous effort from junior Pat Fitzgerald to save the score. We held them out of the end zone and they settled for a field goal and the lead with 6:21 left.
We mixed the run and pass on the final drive before getting into trouble with back to back penalties leaving us at 1st and 20 from the Needham 46. Brundage collected 11 yards, then Charles ran for 4. On 3rd and 5, Keaney hit Osazee over the middle and he scored from 31 yards out. We then iced the game with an Osazee's second interception.

the Quincy Presidents 34-0 in the home opener. It took a period for the Wildcats to break into the scoring column due to some sloppy penalties and a turnover. Natick Gives Wildcats a Wakeup Call!
9/30/2016 - It was an ugly, sloppy evening on Friday and I'm not talking about the weather. The Wildcats suffered their first loss of the season Friday to Natick 26-7. Credit to Natick for playing a tough physical game and pulling away from the Cats in the 4th quarter with two touchdowns to blow open what was a 13-7 lead. But the story of the game was the sloppy play of the Wildcats, whom committed 8 penalties, two turnovers and plenty of blown assignments
The game started with Natick going on a 13 play drive that ended with a 1 yard QB sneak. Colin McSweeney blocked the extra point to keep the score 6-0. We answered in 4 plays as running back Koby Osazee broke a tackle and went 53 yards for a touchdown. Aidan Walsh kicked the extra point and we led 7-6 at the end of the 1st quarter.
Natick continually ran the ball and played sound defense though out the game, while our offense struggled to string together executed plays. We eventually lost field position and Natick capitalized driving 50 yards to regain the lead, 13-7.
We regrouped at the half and battled into the 4th quarter. Natick eventually won the field position battle and began a drive at our 30 yard line which lead to a short rushing score and a 20-7 lead. We responded with a solid drive but it stalled due to a penalty inside the Natick 30. Natick's final score came on a 63 yard naked bootleg.
This week (3-1) Norwood travels to Brooks Field Friday night. This is a big game with both teams (1-1) in the Bay State Herget Division.

Wildcats Double Up Norwood 28-14!
10/7/2016 - Friday Night marked a turning point in the season. With a win verse a tough (3-2) Norwood team the Wildcats (4-1) would keep pace in the By State Herget League race and advance their chances for a home playoff game(s).
The defense set the tone early when Senior Captain Koby Osazee returned an interception 36 yards for a touchdown on the first drive of the game. The defense stopped Norwood on our 5 yard line on the next drive and we moved the ball well but a fumble stopped us. We expanded the lead to 13-0 in the 2nd quarter when quarterback Owen Keaney found David Brundage open for a 12 yard touchdown. Norwood cut it to 13-7 just before halftime when they executed a nice wheel route on 4th & 4 from 40 yards out.
In the second half, William Crowley punted Norwood inside the 3 yard line to end our first drive. On the next play Crowley blitzed off the edge and tackled the Norwood ball carrier for a safety to expand the lead to 15-7. After receiving the free kick, following the safety, Keaney led the offense down the field and found Crowley open from 20 yards out. We missed our second extra of the game but we had a 21-7 lead. Crowley dominated the 3rd quarter, later intercepting a pass to add to his collection of big plays.
However Norwood refused to give up and we failed to burry them on our next drive. We left the ball on the 3 yard line after a Keaney to Brundage pass was ruled short of the first down on our next series. Norwood drove 97 yards converting several 3rd downs to keep the drive alive and after completing a 30 yard pass on a broken play they scored to cut the lead to 21-14 with 7 minutes left in the game. We responded driving 70 yards to ice the game. Smith Charles finished the drive with a 2 yard run behind Omar Fraser, John Hoey and Dan Flores. 28-14 Wildcats, final!

Wellesley Out Lasts Wildcats to Claim Herget Title
10/22/2016 - The game started Friday night in a rain storm. On Wellesley's first play from scrimmage we caused and recovered a fumble . We converted the turnover into 3 points when Aidan Walsh kicked a 29 yard field goal. The Raiders answered after we fumbled deep in our own end. The 5 yard run allowed them to retake the lead 7-3. We answered back mostly through the air as Keaney hit Eddie Hassell for 35 yards and then hit David Brundage for an 18 yard score. The PAT failed, 9-7 us.
Another mistake gave Wellesley the ball at our 3 yard line, when we snapped the ball over our punter's head and Wellesley tackled the ball carrier on our 3. Trailing 14-9, we scored next when Koby Osazee raced 36 yards untouched. We again missed the PAT, but lead 15-14. Another chance to score was wiped out by penalty but we lead 15-14 at the break.
Just before we were to receive the 2nd half kick-off lightening struck sending everyone for cover and the game into a delay. An hour later it was decided to resume the 2nd half Saturday at 3:30.
Refreshed and dry we promptly took the 2nd half kick-off and went 84 yards in two plays. It was Oaszee ripping a 69 yard run and Walsh added the PAT, 22-14. After trading punts, Wellesley tied the scored on an 18 yard pass and conversion rush.
We headed to the 4th quarter, tied at 22 but Keaney quickly found Hassell streaking down the left sideline from 35 yards out and we lead again, 28-22. Thanksgiving Comeback Falls Short
11/24/2016 - With 1:54 left on the clock in the 3rd quarter, we trailed Braintree 30-7. Most teams would quit, stop trying or just fold, but not our Wildcats. The team stayed focused and 51 seconds and four plays later it was 30-15. David Brundage made the play taking an Owen Keaney pass 54 yards for 6 points, breaking 3 tackles enroute to the endzone. Keaney then hit Eddie Hassell for a two-point conversion and we were back in the game.
Inspired, the defense than held Braintree forcing a turnover on downs at our 15 yardline. We moved the ball well to their 35 yard line before our drive stalled. This ended up being the drive that we needed to finish but didn't. But the Cats kept battling and forced another Braintree punt. This time we finished, driving 69 yards. The drive featured big catches from Owen Pages on 4th down, Brundage and a 17 yard touchdown reception from Hassell cut the lead to 30-21. Then Colin McSweeney made an outstanding one-handed catch on the two-point conversion, it was 30-23 with 2:45 left.
We failed to recover the unsueing onside kick and Braintree ran out the clock. The game Vince Lombardi once said, "his Packers (team) didn't lose they just ran out of time". This team ran out of time but they gave us everything they had and memories to last a lifetime. Thank You
