Player Standards
As a Milton Football player it is important to realize that membership on the team is a privilege, not a right, and can therefore be forfeited by failing to abide by the standards of behavior established by the coaching staff and Milton HS. In order to eliminate any further misunderstanding the following list of standards is being made available to you now before the season starts. Whether you like it or not, as athletes you become public representatives of our school and the community and as such, you are expected to conduct yourselves in a mature and responsible manner both on and off the playing field. Failure to do so could result in your dismissal from the team.
VIOLATIONS OF THE TEAM STANDARDS COULD RESULT IN DISMISSAL FROM THE TEAM:
1. Players are expected not to smoke, not to drink alcoholic beverages, and not to use illicit drugs of any kind. This includes attending parties or other gatherings where drugs or alcoholic beverages are being served, distributed or used. Any school imposed suspension is grounds for dismissal.
2. Players are expected to attend all scheduled practices and games. Any unexcused absence from practice is considered grounds for dismissal. Players are expected to inform the head coach, either in person, by telephone or e-mail, when they will be unable to attend or will be tardy for practice.
3. Varsity team members should not participate in any other organized athletic activity during the varsity season without prior approval from the head coach.
4. Players are expected to be fully responsible for the care and maintenance of equipment issued to them. If lost or stolen you are financially responsible and if all items are not returned before the banquet the player will not be able to attend.
5. Players are expected to maintain an attitude conducive to team unity and sportsmanship. If a player is unhappy with his role on the team he should approach his position coach and/or head coach before the parents call the head coach. The head coach should be contacted before or after practice to discuss concerns. If necessary a meeting between the player, parents and coaches will be arranged to discuss the problems.
6. Players are expected to meet all academic responsibilities and to maintain a satisfactory academic record and should take whatever action necessary to do so. The coaching staff fully understands that this may occasionally necessitate spending sometime after school with teachers. These situations should be discussed with the head coach and the player must provide a note from the teacher.
